Need a Passport?

You may need to fill out this "BIOGRAPHICAL QUESTIONNAIRE"...

Well, the complex part on page 2 only pertains to certain applicants born in the US that never got a birth certificate. The vast majority of folks (born in hospitals in US or born abroad) can skip the complex questions.

That only applies to section "C" I believe the rest of it must be filled out. Failure to do so could cause ones application to be denied.

As the information points out "The State Department estimated that the average respondent would be able to compile all this information in just 45 minutes, which is obviously absurd given the amount of research that is likely to be required to even attempt to complete the form.

It seems likely that only some, not all, applicants will be required to fill out the new questionnaire, but no criteria have been made public for determining who will be subjected to these additional new written interrogatories. So if the passport examiner wants to deny your application, all they will have to do is give you the impossible new form to complete."

You should have seen the genealogical dig that it took to get my mom and her siblings their Irish passports. It involved the attic of our lake house, hundred year old documents and a lot of late nights with papers spread out on the floor. Thank god for everything being electronic.

Lets hope renewal time doesn't require all of that.

I think that since we have already proven ourselves, it won't. I know that converting to the new "meaningful" drivers licenses and producing a birth certificate is a PITA for some folks (like my grandparents). Who knows. Fortunately, again, I can order mine online. Maybe I can even tweet for it.

My mum knows her address before and after I was born. and I know all my schools and employment details.

Exactly. Unless you're changing jobs or houses every 6 months, I don't see how hard it could be. My parents were born in the same place that their extended family still resides in today, so there's no fuss.

Nothing wrong with making sure folks are legally getting important IDs like Passports and Drivers Licences. Virginia has one of the more stringent processes for getting a licence but it was very easy for me to collect the documents needed.

I've lived at 16 addresses in three countries, and I figured I could do the form in well under 45 minutes.

Doesn't seem to matter for much for most US citizens anyway, since less than 30% actually have passports.
