Does your X5 help you keep your sanity?

So I'm a senior dental student, and for those of you that aren't familiar with dental school - it is a rough 4 years. The hours are very long, you're always chasing down patients to come in, constantly stressed, and you spend most of your awake time buried deep in books/notes. Why anyone would do this to themself, I no longer remember.

But two things keep me sane: My girlfriend (which I won't bore you with) and my X5. Anytime I am behind the wheel of my X I feel all my troubles from school melt away. And no, it's not because all the X5 troubles take over. It's because he driving experience is so enthralling that there's not much else on my mind. I'm ALWAYS impressed that a 5000lb 10 year old SAV can cut turns the way she does. And all the time I spend modding/maintaining/detailing her is basically the only "me" time I get (once every 2 weeks if I'm lucky). I honestly feel that if I had a car I didn't enjoy this much, say a Honda Accord or Acura RL (I speak from experience), I would be that much closer to having lost it. Just hearing the beeps from unlocking my doors puts the smile on my face again.

You are 100% right. I am a finance student at Cornell. And when I feel crappy, I go for a drive or go wash my X. I actually noticed my exam scores are better when I go wash my car before my exam--instead of cramming information I've already studied!

And congrats on almost being done with dental school! When you get a job be sure ti share contact info! I'm in need of a new dentist actually

I put 25,000 miles a year on my car with no commute, signal anything? Driving (especially in the mountains) has saved my sanity, and probably my liver as well. My stint with the X5 was fun, too even though I probably only averaged 8 MPG the whole time I had it.

I am looking forward to finally driving the X5 again. It has been a few stressful days saying goodbye to new friends at Cornell and finals that I need some way to let off some steam. I'm sure a nice long drive back will calm me down and clear my mind. I don't even think I will worry about MPG on the trip back; hard accelerations to hear that engine wail will be my escape.

now you know what i'm talking about with the "evilness" that cornell can bring you

unfortunately for me, i'll be there in 2 weeks

at least i'll have my e53, now i am scared of a recent hook-up's psycho ex-boyfriend touching my X5, but thats a whole 'nother story

Yea, I said goodbye to at least 30 kids in the Summer School. I just can't take anymore friends leaving.

Oh yes, I've used the X3 numerous times just to "get away" and go for brilliant drives in the Blue Ridge while I was at UVA. I tend to go on weekend day trips every weekend to see more of my surroundings. The reliable X3 pulls thru regardless of weather and the sonorous inline-6, though slow, sounds brilliant and I love the feel through corners. Many good memories while in college.

Unfortunately, now there are few good roads in the Piedmont of NC because they're all straight. Combined with my increased focus on reducing fuel consumption and emissions (environmentally friendly) and the necessity to drive everywhere to run tedious errands here, I don't get quite as much joy out of driving as I used to. I rarely go on "fun" drives now. But life's full of sacrifices I guess........
