What a, (another) thread! Jeeesh H Murphy...remarkable collection of cars those kids were driving.

Not that I didn't do some street racing on Woodward Ave, back in the early-mid '60s, but none of our beaters, even woiked on, could do more than a buck and change, and none/few of us had the ballz, or road space, to get our breathed on beaters up to top speed, except down at the famous Detroit Dragway, Sibley & Dix Hwy!

Having had the pleasure of spending a few days in Van, we quickly came to realize there is some serious dough/upper class income in the area.

Fortunately we, walked, cabbed, air boated, etc., and only drove in/drove out of the Van area, in our slug-like, decidedly lower tech/much less exotic, 9 1/2 yr old VetteVert. ...

Ray is Right On, imo...unfortunately for many kids today, the 'parenting' is appeasement and buy-offs, and then send the kid packing, 'out of my hair', with his/her new set of gizmos, clothes, toys, cars, trips, etc.

Yes, but the road you came in to Vancouver on (from the border, and then through the Dease Tunnel to Oak Street) is the one the 13 kids were racing on. Right around the tunnel.

I agree completely with your (and Ray's) comments on the lack of parenting evident.

I agree with how it is a nice vehicle for any 17 year old. I am starting to come to terms that you can't get a similar vehicle in size for under $13k with a manual transmission. There aren't enough wagons with a manual transmission and going from an auto X5 to a manual X5 doesn't seem wise.

I agree to impound, suspend licenses and heavy fines...but to have your car forfeited its BS IMO
