13 More Street Racers Caught

This is further to a thread last year that got some discussion going on street racers having their cars impounded. It is here: http://www.xoutpost.com/off-topic/lo...d-m6-f430.html

A group of 12 young men (and one woman), all under 21, were caught locally today racing along a suburban road. Speeds reportedly of up to 200 km/hr. Not all are necessarily guilty of racing, some of them have claimed they weren't racing, just following behind the ones that were. That doesn't seem like much of a defence to me, but they will get their day in court.

Anyway, what interested me is the 13 cars (valued at $2m) that were impounded at the scene. The newest one had only 200 km on it:

2007 Ferrari 599
2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
2009 Lamborghini Gallardo
2009 Audi R8
2012 Nissan GT-R
2010 Nissan GT-R
2010 Nissan GT-R
2010 Maserati Turismo
2010 Maserati Turismo
2011 Mercedes SL63
2011 Mercedes SLS
2005 Aston Martin DB9

All 13 drivers got speeding tickets, and their cars impounded for 7 days, while charges of street racing are being investigated. Penalties range up to foreiting your vehicle, all proceeds of sale go to government. Turns out six of the drivers were on N (Novice) licenses, meaning they had only recently got their licenses and still must display the Novice decal, in addition to other driving restrictions.

My sense is that university is about to start up again, and a group of privileged students has returned to class with their recent purchases. I remember the days when we used to get school supplies and school clothes in September.

How does the 18 year old explain to his parents that he just lost his brand new Gallardo?

I saw that story and just shook my head. These kids are just living in another world, put there by their over indulging million/billionaire parents. It blows me away how many "kids" are living like this, particularly in Vancouver. A 16 year old classmate of my nephew at St. George's has an Audi R8! Freakin' 16! What does a 16 year old kid aspire to have when he's 26 or 36 if he's got a R8 at 16? When I was 16 I'd drool over R&T looking at all the cool cars I wish I could afford one day. What's he looking at? A G5? Space shuttle?

EDIT: Said St. George's private school boy with the R8? Yup. Just found out that is his matte black R8 in the bust. He's just going into Grade 11!

The sad thing is that if these cars are ultimately seized under the asset forfeiture laws these kids will get some consternation from their parents but I'm sure they will be down at [insert exotic car dealer] buying a new one the next day. After all, what self respecting 20 year old would show up to community college in anything less than a Ferrari?

Their parents won't even care. The expensive toys for their kids are in lieu of actually spending time raising them properly, teaching them to use good judgement and have respect for the law and public safety. Here's a nice new car son, now go play - see you next week.

The drivers (only one of whom was a registered owner of any of the vehicles) have to be convicted of street racing first. Right now it is sitting at $200 fine for reckless driving, plus one week impound. The Ferrari in the other link that I provided was seized and later sold.

Sheesh, and I thought the X5 I drive is already 10x nicer than what other kids drive. How can high school even manage to take care of those cars; I cry every time I hear a door slam or when a prank is played on the car.

This wouldn't be news except that it was only 24 hours after the last group. A 135 convertible racing a Carrera 4S. Clocked at 143 km/hr in an urban 60 km/hr zone. Both drivers were 17, with novice licenses. They ran; the BMW went off the road, and the Porsche was located in a local high school parking lot. Both cars were impounded, and the driver's licenses suspended. These two cars are likely to be forfeited as they raced past the police officer, and were clocked. Enough evidence to stand up in court.

a space shuttle that gave me a really good laugh. Considering im a 17 year old with an X i thought i was the luckiest kid in the world yet here we have kids with r8's and lambos throwing them away like they were that honda civic that no one wants.from what the OP said it looks like no one was hurt but its people like them that shouldn't be on the road at all
