My SF dealer had quoted me $3100 for this contract on the X5 when I purchased the vehicle. I did not like the fact that it was only for 2 more years.

Here's a link from BMWMutha site...look midway down, left side, and hit the PDF notation; ( couldn't C&P it.). Give it a read...it says not much more than the old link UCrew put up.
http://www.bmwusa.com/cpo/cpomain?navid=cpo It's mostly mkting jive and pat you on the head stuff. And, the 2 point type fine print says see your Stlr for what's really covered...wtf. Either "they"/the stlr has a hard copy or coverage/exclusions, or they make decisions on a case by case basis. Saying motor, trans, etc. is covered is ok...but it doesn't say much else in terms of specifics. No fan here, of CPO and it's "coverage", price and only 2 yr deal. I'd love to read the actual warranty with coverage. GL,md

I was just at the stealer looking at these and the quote from my Service Guy's mouth was..."everything is covered, just like the regualr warranty, except trim pieces". His price was $2395 for the warranty and like $1300 for the Maintenance extension.
Edit: $50 Deductible on the warranty per visit. United BMW of Roswell Last edited by LCC; 12-21-2005 at 04:19 PM. |

![]() I would not be so quick to go with an aftermarket company when you consider what happened to 1source. The BMW warranty is fully backed by BMW and there is no middleman to get approval from. Also, I found that Warranty Direct would cost almost as much. They sent me two quotes and they are both around $2900. Your plan to establish a fund is not a bad idea. I considered that but I am not good about that and would probably not be saving as other expenses pop up. The fear of some major problem with the X5 convinced me to just buy what amounts to insurance. I'll be a genius if my X5's engine or transmission ever goes. Personally, having had all four window regulators replaced, amongst other things, I know that there will be another so I thought the "insurance" would be worth it.

Kev, you did the right thing...penny wise vs pound foolish...don't do what I did.

Thanks for everyone's excellent advise. The only thing that I'm unconfortable with the BMW warranty, as motordavid had pointed out, is their ambiguity "word play".

Yeah, PNG, I'm glad you copped BMW's version...if it works for you; Any viable, staying in biz Ext Warr. is certainly better than no warr/no safety net with these monsters, imo.
I was not dissing the CPO deal; it's simply not for me due to short time period and really vague wording where the info should be crystal freaking clear. GL,md

Yes, the short time period for the BMW ext. warranty was also the other deal breaker for me. I'm looking mainly for a 4yr/50k+ warranty if I were to shell out $2.5k+
