RIP indeed. He had his pecadillos but certainly was a visionary. I think the best line I've heard to describe him was that "he knew what we wanted before we knew we wanted it". He built an amazingly successful company and I do believe that only he could have done it.
It's also very unfortunate that there was such terrible news out of Cupertino today.

Raises a glass to one of the most brilliant men the world has ever known. As an avid Mac Lover I can't imagine a world without my Iphone, Ipod or MacBook. Thank you for changing the way we live and interact with the technology in our lives. You will be missed Steve Jobs

This is a big lost. Steve Jobs was a visionary as was Bill Gates in my opinion. Steve Jobs and more specifically its product APPLE 2 is the reason why I made an enjoyable career as a computer engineer. In 1978 I was a senior in high school with long hair and no clue about what I wanted to do with my life. I thought that university was not for me. I had no interest in any thing. Then my father bought an APPLE 2 with no specific reason other than being very interested in this new concept of personal computer. That was an epiphany for me. This thing really bewitched me. I spent hours and hours working on it. I started by learning the interpreted BASIC language on it and later on many other compiled languages. Very soon I started writing pretty complex programs. Within 6 months I was writing and selling my programs like for example client file management programs for doctor offices or parts stock management programs for hardware stores etc... Suddenly I knew what I wanted to do in my life and that led me to eventually do a master in computer science. I some way I owe him (and my father of course) a lot. He will be missed.

While at work today, my iPad's notification from one of the news app notified me about Steve Jobs passing away. My heart was broken immediately to hear we lost a visionary man who died too early in his time.
He revolutionized the way we interact with technology for good. My fond memories with learning how to program with our school's first computer which was an Apple II with 48K of RAM. After using many PCs for many years, I was finally happy to come back home with a new Mac Book Pro a few years ago which led to getting an iMac, iPad, and also a MacBook Air which I am using to type this post. I already have plans to upgrade to the new iPhone 4S. Anyhow, my deepest condolences to Steve's family and he will be sorely missed.
