Holiday Driving sucks.

I've learned my lesson. This was never an issue when I was in Charlottesville and came home to visit my parents, but I never thought the Raleigh-DC drive would be this awful during holiday season- and I left sort of early this morning! Definitely gotta figure out something for the Christmas break period because I ain't doing through another repeat 5+ hrs of driving annoyance.

I was so bored in one of the traffic jams that I came up with this.

Choose the BEST answer choice.

The quality of the main highways is most likely directly impacted by:
A) The proximity to a major urban centre
B) The average speed of traffic
C) The state motor fuels tax
D) The state general sales tax

A good time to drive I-95 in Virginia and North Carolina is:
A) 06:00-10:00
B) 10:00-14:00
C) 16:00-20:00
D) There is never a good time to drive this stretch of I-95.

One's top speed on the unofficial "derestricted zone" on I-85 in Virginia is most likely to be limited by:
A) The presence/absence of large tractor trailers
B) The county/locale
C) The pavement quality
D) VA state police
E) The natural or limited top speed of the vehicle driven.

The best way to travel north-south through the Richmond-Petersburg corridor is:
A) I-95
B) I-295
C) VA 288
D) I-195/Powhite Parkway

If one purchased prepared food in the city of Colonial Heights, attractively located next to I-95, one would pay _____ in total tax.
A) 5% standard VA sales tax
B) 9% combined tax
C) 11% combined tax

We came that way, simply for 'something different', on our last return to western NC from seeing DaKidz up in NJ. It was late October, and a Monday, so not exactly the equivalent of your time, lol!

It was ~75 miles longer than our 'usual route', by the odo, but we made it in the usual less than 11 hours for the nearly 700 mile run, which included dead stopped on the NJ TPk for 30 mins.

We encountered none of those problems, (except dodging the ubiquitous VA state & county Revenue cops), and our only regret is that I-85 dumped us on I-40 so far east in NC, and we had to drive into the setting sun for 4 hours going west/home.

Turkey weekend driving is a nightmare in many parts of the country, but from my 64 yrs on the planet, especially anywhere on the Right Coast. Imo, your experience was about normal for that time/occasion, but a funny 'quiz'.

I would rather fly from RDU to IAD/DCA than drive. No lines at RDU, parking is a breeze. Arrived at RDU less than 80min prior to my international flight last month with time to spare. Unfortunately airfare between the two cites, just 45min flight, is always expensive.
