I don't know how many states still use lead in their gasoline but in California lead is no longer allowed in gasoline. There are some other differences as well. http://www.chevron.com/products/prod...uality/pg5.asp

I try to use the same location whenever possible for two reasons.

1) If I have gasoline issues I know where it came from.
2) The location I use has dedicated pumps for premium instead of a shared pump between the different grades. I don't want a slug of the cheap stuff before I get my premium. The dilution factor is minimum because I always put in a full tank but it make me feel better.

Guess I should have put that as "Do you think there is a difference?" I do. I'm not pretending to know or anything but I figure if these 4 major car companies, BMW included, did this study to set some standards for detergents in gasolines that would keep your engine cleaner it might be wise to use the brands they approve. Especially if you don't have to go out of your way to do it. I switched from FINA to QT and actually save money too.

Of course it could all be propaganda, but I don't think so. What would the car mfg.'s have to gain? Gas companies can save serious bucks by reducing the amount of detergents they use in their product. Until this report all they had to do was say they had detergents in their gas, never how much.

In Idaho, ConocoPhillips is the most widely available gas (including the supermarkets and Sam's Club/Wal-Mart) - Beware the ethanol blends! (unless you use the full time) - They really screwup your mileage with real gasoline for up to 3 tank fulls - I drive too many places to keep it to one brand - never really got good mileage with Texaco or Sun - Someone said they used Chevron???? - That brand is always the most $$$$ - you own stock?
