Best Buy closing 50 stores

Online retailers like Amazon, the economy and unemployment, etc..
are probably the causes. I wonder what else is going on behind the
scenes.

Which company do you think is next?

This is not surprising given every experience I have had at Worst Buy. People are still buying LCD TVs, computers, digicams, and mobile phones - just not at Worst Buy.

They plan on relying on their "trained" staff and "financial incentives" for staff? Right!!! Their staff are woeful and making them all commission driven will only cause the staff to be worse, if that's possible. As if they don't care what people buy now so long as they buy something, it will be a thousand times worse when they see customers as dollar signs.

I may pay my last obligatory visit for store closing sale, if they close ones in my area. I have 2 within 5 miles.

I love Best Buy - to go in, check out what I like, not talk to sales guy/kid then go home and buy it off Amazon

I like Best Buy. However, I typically do all my reasearch upfront and just go in the store to pick up what I have already decided on buying.

I watched a decent hour long special on them a few months back on one of the news channels. I am by no means a business expert, but I wouldn't count them completely out just yet.

It is indeed tough for store retailers to maintain their business. Best Buy is among the few one-stop-shops for electronics. However, not enough individuals are purchasing Xboxes and plasma TVs nowadays and the retailer is reeling from losses of a nearly $2 billion. Best Buy has publicized shop closures and layoffs consequently. Read more: Best Buy announces store closures after posting huge loss
