Duct tape is a wonderful thing. i actually have an emergecy supply of it in my travel bag. I wrapped a bunch around an old plastic gift card so it's nice a flat and ready to patch tears in bags or hold things together or gag loud people.

So at a road block what do you tell the policemen when he looks into your bag.

actually, the first lunar mission was almost scrubbed when a fender was broken, and the vehicle could not drive without dust obscuring the drivers vision...they fashioned a patch with laminated maps and duck tape..Saving the mission. A it was standard issue on subsequent flights, I heard some called it 'mission tape'

I keep a roll in each car. A small roll when in backcountry

Duct tape is amazing stuff. Instead of a roll, try this space saving trick. Wrap as much of it around an old gift or credit type card. That's how I carry mine for travel.
