No one is "not chill", just talking cars...

Also, I'm not concerned about what cars are labeled. I look at specs, abilities, cost etc and make up my own mind about what is comparable based on what I need it for.

Well, in that case, I'll take 2 Kia's for the same pricepoint of $40K . Of course, we all have our own needs and analysis--but in the end you are comparing 2 different vehicles.

I too compare vehicles based on segment, not price. I never understood how the latter works (like when people compare the X3 to say, a Toyota Rav-4 or Ford Escape).

Off-roading is fun folks. Actually last month I had to reattach part of the plastic plate that's underneath the X3's engine- probably a bit too much speed. It is jolly fun to floor the X3 on a forest road and drive it like a rally car. Really, the Grand Cherokee isn't all that bad and with the diesel, it might actually be practical. I'd consider one if I lived in say, Charlotte where there's less temptation to drive my cars like karts yet still have close access to the outdoors. A lot of the luxury car-based SUVs are bit too posh for my tastes (I'd never sling my muddy bike into the current X3 or toss my dirty gear just....anywhere in the current X3).

If I lived in Charlotte, I would drive a G63 AMG with a brush guard and bulletproof windows. You gotta run over a looooot of Lexuses to get that front parking spot at Neiman's.

That truck makes whoever's in the driver's seat look like a git.

I wonder how VW is going to price the new Golf in the US, seeing as how everyone complains it's pricey in Europe. $30k is pushing it for the Golf already, and I would like the comfort and features in the Grand Cherokee, assuming the diesel gets the ZF 8-speed gearbox. Lots of interesting cars in 2013......

Well, then I'm a git... And Yup. Too bad that they will all use too many "liters" per 100 "kilometers" whatever those are, and they will all rattle too hard on the roads up there while your tax money is busy in front of my house on US-17.

OP: I'd hardly consider a JGC a "big SUV" -- go drive a Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, etc. Those are big SUVs.
