Sometimes you see things you can't believe

I was out running some errands today and dropped by the Apple Store, which is on a fancy schmancy retail street in one of my local cities. On my way out, I heard the sounds of engines. Not just any engines but engines with character. I looked to my left and saw an old M-B 300SL Roadster rumble towards me. I thought that was pretty cool but I heard more engines and looked again and saw one, two, three... 300SL Gullwings coming towards me. There must have been a half dozen at least, some driving down the street with one or two gullwing doors open. Mixed in was a SLS.

I have seen a 300SL Gullwing before but not a group like this driving down the street! Each one was in beautiful looking condition and it was great seeing them being driven. I wanted to follow them but I had to get back to work so I snapped some quick pics and kept on going.

To rub my nose in it even more, I had just come from the local Rolls/Bentley/Maserati/Aston dealer where I visited a friend who is the sales manager there. I "shopped" and chilled in a nice Phantom Drophead just for a comfy place to sit. I was waiting for my Audi to get a quick service done and it is the same dealer. Out of the Phantom Drophead and back into my little Audi A4.

Here are the quick iPhone 4 pics I managed to grab while trying not to crash.

Wow
You were briefly in automotive heaven.
I'd say you saw about 15 million dollars worth of car there as those
original gullwings can easily top 2 million each!! Congrats on a lovely day.

I know! Poor guys were circling looking for parking without meters.

That was on El Paseo in Palm Desert. It is getting to be that time of year where the snowbirds come back and break out their toys. I was behind an Ezno, R8 V10, and "classic" Testarossa the other night. Probably three buddies on their way to dinner. There are many, many very nice cars around here. It is also the home of The Pond Collection.
