Powerless for 50 hrs now. Generator #1 running as the power plant for home heating so we're nice and toasty. Prior to tonight the x had been an expensive cellphone charger and grill light for me to make dinner. One of our friends regained power and loaned us a second generator which the chest freezer full of meat will not go to the garbage now, and I can charge phones readily. No power at my work so no work. Power co says could be till Monday-Wednesday because they don't have enough poles and have to source them from other states. Good thing is everyone's safe and none of the trees on my property decided to land on my house.

These stories and pictures are so sad!

Laura, that is so sad! I'm glad to hear you are safe! NY is a mess!

Here in PA some of us just lost power and trees came down but nothing like NY & NJ. Some residents in PA do have structural damage to their homes but blocks or neighborhoods were not wiped out like in NY & NJ. I have my power back. Some schools are still closed in PA and a lot of people still without power.

I've never seen anything like this. It's devastating.

Things are getting back to normal - for me anyway. Phones and internet came back in the office at 4:30 yesterday. As I was twisting the cap on my lantern at home last night after replacing the batteries the power came on. The timing was pretty funny.

I have 3/4 tank of gas. I just need to make it last until the gas stations are back to normal. Two of my employees waited 4 hours yesterday and were only able to get $30 of gas. I drove like a grandma yesterday.

There is so much devastation all around me. The news for some reason isn't talking too much about Staten Island. Having no power for 72 hours is a minor inconvenience. So many lost their lives and their homes.

The pictures I've seen from Staten Island look like a war zone.

...ABC Nat News had a segment on SI, last night.
Like many areas of the east/NE it looked like it had been bombed. And, the people standing in 5 hr gas lines, jug in hand, looked like some 3rd world country.

Going to be a long heartache time to get back to near normal, imo.
Stay safe and sane, everyone.

My house in the Hamptons was flooded and I looking at raising it up.

The good thing is that no one was hurt and the world did not end yesterday.
