Way to go Massachusetts!

Appoint worst driver to head up highway safety. Guess she has experience.

that's just the tip of the iceberg

... you wouldn't believe half the crap that has surfaced over the past two years in the state if it weren't true. and that is just the stuff that has surfaced.

also, without question, when vacationing here make sure you wear a helmet when driving. the WORST drivers (with possible exception to RI) in the country ( in general of course and no offense to anyone on the board)

The cronyism is just appalling. To have someone who has as horrible a background as her get appointed to a high office based solely on word of mouth recommendations is beyond irresponsible. Is it sheer arrogance that causes the powers that be to ignore the obvious issues that will arise? Do they think no one will question it? What's next? A registered sex offender pedofile in charge of state daycare licensing?

In most companies, as a mgr, one would not get away with this crap...for long.
Everyone has made bad hires, but they either rise to the occasion or they get sent packing. I sent a hundred+ sales & mkting guys packing over 3 decades. Mistakes happen.

But gov't, at any level & regardless of 'party', seems to be above that kind of scrutiny or unable to rectify its ongoing patronage debacle.

Couple of interesting snippets from that art:
A spokesman for Governor Deval Patrick and Murray said late Friday that Burgess was hired, in part, based on the recommendation of US Representative James McGovern, for whom Burgess once worked as a consultant. Brendan Ryan, the spokesman, said he could not address why Burgess was hired into the administration as head of traffic safety despite her record of driving violations.

McGovern did recommend Burgess, said a spokesman for the representative, but not for a specific position.

“He just said, ‘Here’s a good person for the Patrick administration to hire,’ ” said Michael Mershon, the spokesman. Mershon said he had no information on whether her driving record was known to McGovern at the time of his recommendation, or who specifically in the Patrick administration he made the recommendation to.

There is Burgess, an elected 'genius', dodging the finger pointing...typical.

And,
Officials at the state Office of Public Safety and Security, where Burgess has worked since 2007, said the Ford Taurus she was driving is being repaired. In addition to the highway safety division, state public safety secretary Mary Elizabeth Heffernan also oversees the State Police.
When asked whether Heffernan was comfortable with Burgess’s long driving record, spokesman Terrel Harris said that she “was comfortable knowing Burgess has had no driving issues between the date of her hiring and the time of her [Aug. 24] accident.”

A 'genius' appointed 'State Public Safety Secretary', who needs a spokesperson to hide behind...I wish I had had 'spoke persons' to funnel my responses through, esp if I missed that ~$50Mil qtrly nut.

'We' let the elected geniuses, and their genius appointees hide behind their office and their desks. We deserve what we get I suppose. If I lived in Mass, I would be inundating all of those mentioned idiots with emails, tweets, FB pages, etc. One cannot make this crap up.
GL, mD

PS: good dig out PNG/K!

Wow, and the hits keep coming! I recently re-watched "The Departed". It seems even more like reality than fiction than the Whitey Bulger connection.

Democrat, Republican, or Independant, that is just asinine. Somebody needs to yank her out of that position.

It is true that you don't have to be a good driver to actively promote good driving, but who is going to listen to someone with a record like that.
