Just to F with them, I took my passport to the drugstore to buy decongestants... almost caused their heads to explode when I said "here's my government ID"

I'll bet the same thing works for retailers. If they refuse, I'd chargeback the purchase with the credit card company.

It did the same thing but I wouldn't let them touch the card. But some stores are trying to do an end around by displaying a sign saying its their company policy to scan ID'S. my answer is simple I can take my business elsewhere it's your call.

When their "policy" conflicts with 'the law", that's fun. Annoying when the front line folks are too dumb to realize the issue, but in the end they get there

They cant scan a passport. No mag stripe

The other point is if they didnt scan a DL it on purchase, they get no right to scan it on return. if they wish to refuse to accept the return under the same terms they sold it, time for Uncle AMEX to smack them around.

I agree, when I buy and item they can ID me- but cannot scan it.
