Thanksgiving in OBX - with the X5 driving on the beach!

I spent Thanksgiving in Carova, NC – one of the most northern points of the Outer Banks. The only access to this area is by driving on the beach. Obviously, only 4x4 vehicles are allowed, so my E70 got to have some fun. Driving on the beach next to the ocean isn’t too bad because the sand is packed tightly. It’s getting on and off of the beach that’s exciting and scary. If you stop, you get stuck! Here are some pictures of our trip. Enjoy!

At the end of 12-North, it turns into the beach. This is the sign as you enter the beach. If you stop, you get stuck, and you get a $250 fine. Moral of the story – HAMMER DOWN!

I’m pretty impressed the X5 navigated through this like it was NBD!

7 miles up the beach, this is where we turn!

A typical road this far north.

After we arrived…I’m very proud of her.

But all of the sand made me cringe!

The house we rented for the week. Construction was just completed in March 2012.

Looking out of our kitchen window at two wild horses strolling by. (Crappy iPhone picture)

The view from our porch.

Former U.S. Coast Guard Station

During low tide, the beach is a highway.

We took a drive down to Nags Head to check out the damage from Hurricane Sandy. There are still many roads that are closed and there were several big loaders removing the sand and trying to get the roads open. This road looks like it was just recently cleared. Some of the sand is starting to blow back over it.

Heading back from Nags Head, it was getting close to high tide. This guy decided to go around this building on the ocean side. I'm sure his ass is still sore from the chewing his wife gave him!

The blowing foam really freaked me out. We drove in at night and it was one of the few things I could see. Super creepy.

I saw another X5 on the beach! Couldn't get my camera out fast enough

A quick photo op as we begin our drive home. I like to call this “X on the Beach”
