270 MPH...

All over the web, so you may have read/seen this vid...
Worth a look.

For us that ride m'cycles, most of us are aware that a medium speed of 60 mph = 88 ft a second. A look down/distraction brings stuff up really quickly.

That 270 mph = ~400 feet per second!

Helluva car and helluva tech job to get it to run that fast, on the ground, imo.

World's Fastest: 270.49 mph Hennessey Venom GT - YouTube

Mehh not really a record, you have to do it woth directions and average it. The tailwind helped it. I would still chose the veyron over that thing any day. much better car

It ran out of road, hit that 270mph speed in around 2 miles (would bet a near 300 mph run is possible with enough road), takes the Veyron 4 miles to get to its LOWER top speed.

Take them both out to the Nurburgring and watch the Venom GT turn laps over a minute quicker then the bug-buggy.

Given the choice of the Venom GT or TWO Veyrons, I'll take the Venom GT please, the DRIVERS car!

FWIW, I've seen 300 ft per second in my Hennessey Venom Viper, tunnel vision big time.

I wasn't pitching the car, or trying to start an arm wrestle...it is simply a pretty well done lil' vid on a very cool car, ripping off nearly 300 miles an hour.

If I hit the big Lotto I am adding it to my short list, for my WalmartNation trips.

RecordSmecord...helluva car, imo.

I wonder who Hennessey had to develop tires for this application.

Hennessey went to Michelin France, same supplier Bugatti uses for the Veyron.

They are labeled Pilot Super Sports (see vid, 28 secs), but I would bet they're not "off the rack" tires.

The carcasses/sidewalls are most likely specially designed/developed to resist "standing wave" deformation and extreme centrifugal forces.

Pezho405, don't want to disagree with you, but the Veyron and XJ220 are "grand touring" class cars, the Venom GT and McC F1 are "Hyper-sport" class cars.

I was watching the development of the XJ220 back in the day, lost respect for Jag when they let the "bean counters" override the engineers, dropped the V12 engine development and went turbo 6.

The end result was a car that began development to be a XJ220 (220 mph top speed) and never reached that goal in production trim. For a company that always met it's intended speed goals (starting with the XJ120), missing the intended design goal can only be seen as a failure by the engineering group.

One of these things is not like the other.......

Don't know of any links, but DO know that Smith (driver in vid) is an ex-Michelin tire engineer with their French group. They fail to mention that in the vid.
