I don't really think about the texture, personality and civility of this forum?
Perhaps I should. And you're probably right, I'm sadly mistaken about many things. And yes I am clearly a long time cheerleader for ownership and apparently a 'single person enforcement team' when someone says 'for sale' I own all of that.

I'm also happy you have the opportunity to express your feelings about the texture, personality and civility of this forum. And I'm equally sure the owners of this site value your opinion regarding how to maintain forum quality across models, years and owners.

One thing for sure I have no clue about what needs to be done about many things. However for the most part from what I've seen the site has taken care of itself because most of the members who have been here for a while don't need to be told what to do and how to act so the moderators seldom enforce rules and communicate to members what is acceptable and what is not. Good manners is a given along with allowing people to be themselves. The balance of the other members just want to solve their problems and sell something. For those who want to accomplish those two things there are different options open to carry that out and since some don't know the forum rules some of us take the time to point out the best way to take advantage of the available options.

I hope pointing people in the right direction is the proper thing to do.

Peace-Out

But back to the issue- how do you maintain forum quality across models, years and owners? I could go on for quite some time on this, having done it for over 20 years. Its pretty simple:

1. Commitment and Vision
2. Moderators
3. Communication

You empower moderators with a vision of the forum 'feel' and operation. They enforce rules and communicate to members what is acceptable and what is not. They in turn help identify new members that will turn into new moderators. Moderators communicate and share, respect and support each other...continue to reassess actions and policy. Bring in fresh blood. Weed out bozos..etc, etc.

It is a continuing process. once it goes stale, the quality slides.

IMO
