Germany Tours?

After touring Germany a couple of years ago with my brother who was stationed there it was awsome. Do any of you well traveled people have an idea what would be the best way to tour the beautiful countries of Germany and Austria. Without speaking the language it would be tough to just wing it. Are there bus tours for people such as myself? I would love to see the birthplace of the legendary BMW and to see the factory. Thank you in advance for your help.

I live in Italy, for 3 years now. And there is no better way to see the country side than by car. Preferably a Bimmer. These cars are made to go on these crazy mountainous roads. The alps, hills, dolomites, etc. are great fun. Good suggestion to get a map, and a car with sat.nav works great. From the rental company, see is english is available in the sat nav. Most hotels/resturants have english speakers. Some german is close enough to english to understand a small bit. If you come to northern Italy, write me a message and I will be happy to meet you and show you my town of Trento. Happy travels.

Hoopie,

My wife and I go to northern Italy just about every year. This year (in May), we'll be going back with a couple of friends. My in-laws have a place in Asiago, which is our "home base" there. From there, we've driven to Venice, Lake Como, Florence, Rome, Sorento, la Quince Terra, you name it. I'll shoot my a message before we go. Maybe we can meet for a cup of coffee or lunch!

Juan

I lived in Germany for some 8 years (both as a member of the military and as a civilian), and you'll love the country. Google "Rhine River tours," and you'll find TONS of information. I highly recommend that area: castles, wine, and great food. The Rhine River area is gorgeous.

BMW is out of Munich, which is smack in the middle of Bavaria -- a beautiful area! May I recommend a travel agent? S/he should have some pretty good ideas.

WARNING! Starting in June, Germany will be hosting the Soccer World Cup -- the largest sporting event in the world!! It goes on for some five weeks. Prices will be higher, hotels will be booked, and the place will be crowded. I suggest you go in late May or early June, OR after the World Cup. That is, of course, unless you like soccer. In that case, go for it! Here's the official link to the FIFA World Cup.

Also, you should buy Rick Steve's Guide to Europe. We've used it extensively, and find it to be THE best travel guides out there. If you don't know, Rick Steves is the "travel guy" for NPR and Discovery channel. He always has wonderful recommendations and steers you away from overly expensive places. Give it a try.

Good luck!

Juan

I would love it if you guys gave me an e-mail before you came out. Both of you Connman and Juan. My wife and I are always pleased to have other americans to talk to and party with. Italy is most fun to share with others!! Let me know, I'll be there. I live close to Asiago (Juan, I'm sure that you know this), Verona, Venice, and Innsbrook. Can't wait to meet you guys.

well here my 2 bob's worth.

We travel Europe 4 times a year but we have our Caravan on the back and this year it will be on the back of our X5

However travelling from the USA I reckon what I would do is try and see as much of Europe as I could and the best way to do that is by train.
Buy yourself a Europe train ticket that will take anywhere in Europe. I would plan where I want to stay in various countrys take a train to that place and rent a car tour that area and then move on by train to next place rent a car tour that area (get the idea).

You could get on the Train at Holland and travel all the way to Russia if you wanted to.

Koblenz in Germany it a lovely place to stay and not to far from the ring. Austria visit vienna and for the mountains Tirol and don't forget to try a jager schnitzel. Italy the lakes are lovely Venice is aswell almost anywhere In Italy is lovely but then it's my fav place to visit. Go to Switzerland you've got the Eiger, Jungfrau (Interlaken) and see it by helicopter also in Switzerland every second shop is a watch shop. .

Holland well I like staying at Wassenaar which is just outside Den Hagg (the hague) and about 25 mins from Amsterdam. There are alot of American stay in this area.

Also don't forget France the area I would go to Monaco, Antibes,Nice what a lovely part of the country. You could visit Pairs but only for the day. However be aware France is the worst place for them willing to speak English every other part or Europe I have never had a problem. To finish you could sail over to Scotland and share a wee dram of Highland Park with us.

Keith,

I'll shoot you an email or PM before we leave. We usually fly into Verona; we go to Venice every time (it's only 1.5 hours from Asiago); and we were in Innsbrook 1.5 years ago... lovely place!

We'll try to hook up when we go up there.

Juan
