Motorola V551

Hey guys, wanted an opinion on a new phone I'm getting. Currently I have a Motorola V60i GSM, which is a tri-mode that BMW sells too.

Anyway, I have been able to get my hands on a Motorola V551 for FREE today. It should be in the mail next week. It's a quad-mode GSM phone with Bluetooth, color screen and camera.

Thoughts?

Mine will be Rogers branded, but it's the same phone as above. Best part is I am getting for $0.

My son has it and it's a great phone. It has all the same bells and whistles as the V600, plus it can record video (the V600 can only play video) and it supports EDGE. The Bluetooth integrates flawlessly with the BMW Bluetooth ULF, including automatic transfer of both the phone and SIM phonebook.

If you are going to that from a V60i, you'll be very happy with it.

I almost bought that one. I researched it and found "ZERO" complaints. All the reviewers raved about it. Great phone!!!

Ian, it's a fantastic phone like Jeff and Greg said. Who's your carrier? If you have Rogers with the 850MHz then the quad band gives you much better reception. Yup it's got it all.

I have that phone (well, the 505 -- which was AT&T's version of it), and it's a great phone. You got a great deal, too.

Phong: I'm with Rogers for like 5 years now.

Thanks for the good words guys. I know the basics about phones, like its frequencies and stuff, but I was told by this Rogers rep that if I had to buy any phone today from their line-up, to narrow it down from 50 phones to just 7, which support Bluetooth.

He openly recommended the V551, and I didn't wanna re-learn using a different brand phone, so...

Now, I gotta get this Bluetooth keyboard so my phone can interface, eh?

I don't know about the numpad though...still split on that one. No pun intended.

I have the V505 and I'll be the first to pitch a couple of bitches about it. I do not like the phone book software as compared to my Sony-Ericsson T616. Specifically, the voice dial on the S-E allows you to use just one voice tag with each entry. If that entry has seperate numbers for office, cellphone, or home, you don't have to create a seperate voice tag for each. For example, if I have "Ian" in my S-E, all I say is "Ian". It will beep a second time and I would say "home" or "cell", etc. The V505 requires you to create a seperate voice tag like "Ian home" and "Ian cell". I just think that's a PITA. Also, the cool MP3 ringtones are disabled when you're using a BT headset. To me, that sucks. When my BT headset is connected, which is usually, I don't hear my phone ring "Baby Got Back" in MP3. Strangely, when I use the Motorola BT headset with it the volume is very low. When I use my Jabra BT heaset with it, the volume is great. The Moto BT headset with my S-E is great too. Finally, I like the software on the Moto V710 much better because it has digit dialing and you do not have to program voice tags. The phone recognizes them all.

over.

Wow I see you're a power user when it comes to phones. I have only used an S-E once in my life. I had a P200 or something. Cheap tri-mode it was...

I didn't like the slowness of the OS, but I am sure today's S-Es have faster processing times.

I've never used the voice dialing feature of any phone to be honest. I do thank you for pointing out which BT headset NOT to get. How much does this Jabra thing go for?

Mixalot as your ringtone =
