The way I see it, the high demand guns are hardly ever "in stock" and/or discounted.

I'm at the Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine, TX every month, guns like the Sig P320 RX (hell, even the Walther PPQ 45) are NEVER on hand. The guns on hand are always warehouse shelf fillers that they purchase in bulk/at discount prices (keeps the profits high).

The Sig is a hot selling gun currently and the dealers can't make bulk/discount purchases.

^That's kind of the input I was looking for - I have my name on 2 Sig Sauer distributor lists for the P320 .45ACP Compact (9+1) when it comes back in stock for over 2 months now - still waiting

Good to hear RB.

It's really sad that I regularly walk into gun dealers here in TX, ask to see and/or shoot regular, production models of guns that THEY are authorized dealers for the manufacturer, and be told there are none in house. Even getting redirected to "best sellers".

Seems dealers are riding the profit wave of uninformed/new gun owners by only stocking the high profit margin guns and no high VALUE guns.

The Wilson Combat BrigTac is a Beretta PRODUCTION firearm, been to several Beretta dealers here, yet to see one!

Sigh - Yeah we have our share of good gun dealers and extremely bad, price gouging, incompetent dealers in NJ -

Truth be told the best experience I usually get is with a home based FFL who keeps a small inventory or can order what you'd like (if available) from a distributor within 2-3 days, usually the prices on what they have in stock beats the LGS (low to no overhead), and they are small home based businesses I try to support -

I try not to order online just to have FFL do transfer, if I can help it - but if its impossible for a firearm I just have to have, I would do it. To date, I have purchased all my arms locally, just takes a bit of price shopping between FFL's

What do you know about HK and/or the VP9? Its a good value on the LE version (Meprolight sights and a 3rd mag) - I just never owned an HK, and from what I read, they are built a bit more complex than a Glock, Sig, Walther - but it is a purdy looking pistol for sure, not as many people have them, etc. - HK is rumoring a VP45 next year but nothing concrete yet

I've always liked HK products (going back to the '80), and would like a VP9 in my collection, but having the "what does another 25% get me" defective gene, I'm all over the RX. I gladly pay up for value.

OK here's my dilemma of the day - I have to buy stupid NJ compliant AR's because we have the evil features assault weapons ban - so the NJ compliant version S&W Sport II sells for about $630 out the door around here -

I could pick one of those up as a great entry level AR (I would love to get a Colt LE6920 but the budget is a bit stretched for it, they aren't sold anywhere around here, and you still have to pay extra for gunsmithing "compliance work") and shoot with it for a while until I learn the platform more and eventually add something nicer and maybe give it to my wife -

Or I could get a sweet Beretta 1301 Tactical, add a mag extension so its a 6+1 and have a super reliable and sweet shooting semi-auto 12 gauge - $800 shipped from Arms Unlimited plus $25 transfer, so both firearms would be similarly priced since I would be buying extra magazines for the S&W rifle -

Both would be range/HD toys -

RB, is that shotgun for home defense?
Why not a Mossberg pistol grip?
Lot cheaper, simple, easy to use/get good with, fits under bed, equal Kaboom at the bad guys.

Pretty different weapons - pretty hard to compare. I think you should just get both.

Did I also not mention I already own a Mossberg 500 with 12" stock and 18" barrel? No pistol grip on it currently, but thinking of adding one in the future -

The semi-auto would be for outdoor targets and home defense, but you're right, sort of redundant I guess if I already have a reliable pump? Something about racking a bolt and having 7 shells at the ready without any further input except for pulls of the trigger just sounds amazing to me though....

and to ylwjacket, yes I should tell my wife I need both, right NOW lol -

I'll tell her if you want. Might be easier coming from a 3rd party.

I repelled a home invasion in college (lived in a house with 3 other guys) with a pump action Mossberg. Two dudes standing in the living room, looking around. I racked it in my bedroom, took the safety off, and stepped into the living room. One of them was holding something - knife or screwdriver - not sure which. Told them both to keep their hands up, and walk backwards out to the front door, or they would have truck sized holes in their torsos.

It got their attention, and they did as instructed. My roommate called the police while I was confronting them. I suppose I could have held them there and waited, but I really didn't want an escalated confrontation, and I really didn't want to blow a huge hole in either of them.

So, the moral is - Mossberg works.

Of course we all laughed about it later - me there in my tidy whiteys, acting like Clint Eastwood with a shotgun. My other roommates emerged, similarly clad, during the event. So, when the cops roll up, there's 4 dudes in their undies, one of which is holding a live shotgun, which he promptly surrendered to the police, outside on the front porch, in said tidies.

At least they let us put some clothes on before we had to give them reports and stuff.
