foreclosures, etc.

Educational Background:

Obama: Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a
Specialization in International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

& Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)

vs.

McCain:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899

& Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester
University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in Journalism


Now, which team are you going to hire ?

I hope you look for the same qualities when you are choosing a doctor who will perform surgery on you. Or when you are choosing an attorney to represent your business in a major lawsuit. Choose the guy who looks more like a "real" person.

Well Bush is the exception to that rule LOL. And I don't agree with the regular person going to 4 different schools just to get an undergraduate degree. I'm not sure that's the standard, well at least it wasn't mine.

But you today as a business owner, based on theses resumes, who would you pick?

I went to 3 universities and if you count summer classes you can make it 5. I feel I am fairly intelligent and I know many people who I consider to be smart that went to 2 or 3 universities. Since when did you have to stay at one school to be considered intelligent?

I also know many people who would be considered book smart, but still have no clue how the world works. It would be unfortunate if you didn't take any other factors into consideration when hiring someone other than how many schools they went to. There is much more to a person than that.

I said it in another thread, but there are plenty of intelligent people in this country that are not capable of being the President.

As far as McCain and Obama go, you need to not just consider schooling, but also experience. Would you rather hire someone with 20+ years of experience related to the job they are applying for or just a few years?

Oh really? Biden has ONE degree and had a “C” average. He graduated 506th in a class of 688.

At the University of Delaware, he was a mediocre student - 506 out of 688 in the class of 1965. He was ``trying to be the complete Joe College,`` wrote a history professor, ranking Biden average in ``intellectual achievement`` but high in ``command of English language.`` The professor nonetheless recommended the former football and baseball jock for admission to law school ``on grounds of personality and general promise.``

But Biden soon ran into trouble at Syracuse Law. He was accused of plagiarism after lifting five pages from a law review article for a course paper. But his pleading - ``I implore you, don't take my honor`` - convinced the dean to let him stay in school, take the course over, and wipe the slate clean.

Another law dean later told a prospective employer that Biden, who finished 76th in a class of 85, had been an academic ``disappointment.`` But the dean said Biden's ``confidence,`` ``general physical appearance`` and ``general speaking ability`` would help make him a natural trial lawyer.

I don't think the issue really is the number of institutions of higher education that one attends, or even the degrees conferred, but the formal education that one ultimately receives. Those of us who have had the luxury to attend and/or the ability to attend and have paid attention, worked hard studying and took full advantage of most of what that period in our lives had to offer, have most likely truly benefited from it in many ways.

As someone who attended a 4-year liberal arts college, with my junior-year-abroad, followed by a 3-year professional degree graduate program at a ivy league university, I can say that I learned not just about the topics of the courses I took but I also learned to think.

I also ultimately learned that:
- You get out of it what you put into it
- You need to hear many different opinions with factual back-up in order to formulate your opinion
- Question everything and always ask "why" and "why not"
- the appreciation of all of the wonderful distractions of members of the opposite sex.
- the importance of having and showing respect for people who disagree with me
- an appreciation of an "honor system" since if you cheat you really are just cheating yourself.
- a greater appreciation for my parents financial sacrifice to send me (and pay for) my college education.
- a greater appreciation of what it takes to pay off all of my graduate school student loans over a 10 year period.
- the benefits and challenges of both caffeine and alcohol in excess....
(Ok, ok.... so I have had a bit too much of both this evening and am rambling on here.....)

Once we have this formal education, we then go out into the real world and continue to learn what works and does not work. We have what we learned put to good use, tested and determined to be either true or false or in most cases just a starting point to something that falls within a more "gray" area...

Ultimately, our formal education and life/work experience make us who we are and contribute to our constantly expanding wisdom of life.

One point of clarification:
Someone can be very intelligent and not necessarily be very smart.

I think both McCain and Obama are both intelligent. I think Obama received a better formal education whereas McCain has had more influential "life experiences". At the end of the day, I still am making my choice on who to vote for based on where they stand on the key issues facing this country and my faith and trust that they will be the best President for this country, as well as factoring in who their running mates are.
(Most of you already know who is getting my vote....)
