Obama's not the first to raise taxes.

Sales tax soon to be raised an additional 1.5% to 10%

SACRAMENTO, CA -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday proposed a temporary 1.5 percent sales tax increase to deal with California's worsening fiscal crisis, which has created an $11.2 billion deficit in this year's budget.

"We have a dramatic situation here and it takes dramatic solutions ... and immediate action," the governor said as he called the Legislature back into session to deal with the budget shortfall. "We must stop the bleeding."

~3 %"...

How'bout cutting a third of "gov't" and check back in
60 days to see if anyone really missed it/them.

Econ times are not so good; raise the taxes on the
WalmartNation gang.

Uh Huh..... would love to see it but the reality is sacrifice is for everyone else
but not the ones who caused the need for sacrifice in the first place.

When was the last time the government did anything that was "temporary"?

Terrible waste in California. The amount the State spends in health care alone is staggering. Then when you consider a large portion of this goes toward the care of Illegal Aliens you see why California is in trouble.

So I guess they think if we give them more they will spend it better...Fat chance.

Actually, take a look at their penitentiaries. We could easily aid the problem by declaring marijuana..legal. 3 strike policy was one of, if not the, dumbest things Cali ever did.

How about, instead of increasing sales tax, we do the smart thing and repeal California prop 13.

Or at least amend it so that people pay a reasonable amount of real estate taxes..

It's the most moronic prop that has ever been adopted, short-sighted, and is now responsible for bankrupting the state, in an effort to allow older people to live relatively Real Estate TAX free....

People have to own homes to pay real estate taxes...
Lot's of houses and either no one is in them or they
can't pay their mortgage is the problem.

Prop 13 has never had a real negative effect on
California's tax base. Everybody already knows that.
