How is it that people who pay no taxes get refunds?

Me too - just thinking though that actually putting that in writing to employees would be pretty bad.

I pay about 3k per year in property taxes for the bus system in my county, and there isn't a bus that comes within 8 miles of my house. i cry about it all of the time, and they ignore me. so it goes.

the business owner letter makes some good points. i went w/o paychecks for almsot 2 years when i started my business, while i was paying other staff, contributing to their 401k, and paying 90% of their health insurance policies.

people have no idea what is involved. as that thing said, they only see it 10 years downstream.

one day, i was telling my wife, if we didn't win a particular contract, we might have the house foreclosed, and we would have to move.

the next day, my 2nd grader comes home with a backpack full of handmade "we'll miss you cards", because she had told the class that she was having to move to a "shoebox" because
my daddy's company isn't doing well".

of course, that didn't happen, and we built a great company. however, no one can know what it is like to be up all night, wondering if you have totally ruined your family's financial life for your own vanity.

Even at a 50% tax rate that means he's taking home considerably over a million a year.
