How is it that people who pay no taxes get refunds?

Obama says Republicans can beat on him all they want, but he will not compromise on the point of sending tax rebate checks to people who paid no taxes.

For those of us who pay ALOT of taxes, how is it fair that I will pay more, and they will take my money and hand it over directly to someone who pays NONE.

I'm sure the forum liberals can shed light on this for me, but from where I sit, I can't even tell you how mad that makes me.

What you mean you don't like giving up nearly 40% of your pay???

Our system sucks, we punish the earners....plain and simple. We thrive on smashing the upper-middle class in hopes that as long as we give them BMW's with .9% financing and flat-screen TV's they can watch while playing on their iPhone or Wii, they will not take notice. And so far, it's worked. Throw them a "reality show" now and then like American Idol or Real Housewives...and they generally stay put.

I hate it more than I can put into words. I accept it, but I hate it.

That is, until they start giving it away to people who didn't even pay anything.

It sickens me too... I think the idea is that the refunds will go to people that need it and thus they will spend it. Many of us have been tagged with not needing our money.

Default on you mortgage stiff your creditors and you will be rewarded. You see when you can't pay your mortgage it's no longer your fault, it's the evil bankers that made you agree to a loan you could not pay. It's not your fault....

Exactly. We simply do not reward those who play hard.

How some people don't realize this encourages people to work less or (at both ends of the spectrum) not work as hard is beyond me. Redistribution of wealth is a socialist and loosing proposition.

I don't mind paying taxes for things that I see results from:

Fire/Police/Schools/Roads/Defense/etc.

It's the simple throwing away of dollars by the government for the "good of the masses in their eyes" that I have a problem with.

Those are things that are for the "good of the masses".

Whether you are paying for some child living in poverty to attend school, or be protected from a fire is no different in concept than paying for that child to see a doctor when sick or be given food to eat. All of those things are welfare of some sort. Most would actually say the second two items are of more importance than the first two.
