As always I greatly appreciate all of your support and emails…I apologize if I have not been as responsive in the past couple of weeks…you know with the Attorney General, the VCNO, the 3 Senators, the 8 Congressman, the White House Council (the ones who wrote the executive order to close GTMO but did not visit GTMO until 1 month after they wrote the report), the multiple and various Admirals and Generals and of course the budget comptrollers for both the Army and SOUTHCOM…I have been a bit pre-occupied. One comment I will share with those of you who have been tracking the whole “close GTMO” rhetoric in the media is a lesson I learned early on in my career at Ver izon which was “follow the money”. I quote the Comptrollers in our meeting with them last week: “You are fully funded for all operations through 2015, don’t worry about money, if you need any more right now based on the Walsh report findings, please let us know so we can get it for you”. So much for the “Close GTMO rhetoric…as I have stated earlier, these last 240 detainees are truly the worst of the worse and with the exception of the 60 or so that the State Department has been trying to transfer or release out of GTMO for the past 2 years, the rest are going to, or should remain in detention. I should caveat that none of the 192 countries in the world will accept them.
