I wonder if the nearly 65,000 people (or whatever number)
speaks for everyone on campus?

Notre Dame's president summed it up nicely.

In a statement issued Monday, the Rev. John Jenkins, Notre Dame's president,
said Obama will be honored as an "inspiring leader" at the commencement.

"Of course, this does not mean we support all of his positions," Jenkins said.
"The invitation to President Obama to be our Commencement speaker should
not be taken as condoning or endorsing his positions on specific issues regarding
the protection of human life, including abortion and embryonic stem cell research.
Yet, we see his visit as a basis for further positive engagement."

If it is 51% that is enough, I mean...Obama doesn't speak for me

In this circumstance, no one is asking anyone to make any policies based on the RC Church teachings, the issue is about the president of the US and his beliefs being contradictory to the University of Notre Dame's teachings and beliefs.

What would people say if Yeshiva invited the head of the PLO to speak at their commencement? (not that Obama is that contrary to ND, just making an analogy)
Just because they can does not mean they should.

He is not there to spread the word on religion or to impose different stories about the Lord Jesus Christ...he is there to commence as the president of the United States...

Politics and religion should stay separate IMO

Wagner "in God we trust" only when we want to...because there are plenty of policies and behaviors we have engaged in that are against the Roman Catholic Teachings
