Lower Manhattan is the worst place to hold the 9/11 Terrorist Trials. Unless we act now, that is exactly what will happen.

These neighborhoods have suffered enough.

Having the trials in Lower Manhattan will:

•Adversely affect real estate transactions; Lower Manhattan has 30,000 residential units and more than 100 million square feet of office space
•Create economic hardship for the 8,000 plus businesses in the area
•Bring trauma to the 140,000 people who live there and have already been through enough
•Distress the more than 315,000 New Yorkers that work there
•Discourage the more than 8 million annual visitors
• Place a roadblock in the economic recovery of the city


Lower Manhattan’s business district is vital to our city’s economy and quality of life for all New Yorkers. The heightened security for the 9/11 trial will burden the area’s economy and greatly impose on the lives of its residents. The trial needs to be moved away from this large, vital urban center to a less populated location.

I think they should be kept in Guantanamo where there are already trial facillities for this specific purpose, so I am with you on your cause, but if you don't want them in Manhattan at least use some credible reasoning.

The attack was commited in NYC, the trails should be held in NYC. Those who claim that this will cause terrorists to want to attack NY again are nutz. NYC, until it is no longer the financial capital of the USA will ALWAYS be a prime target.

What needs to happen is a few more New Yorkers need to go get their stones back. If anyone ever told me when I was younger that New Yorkers or Philadelphians or Bostonians (not the shoes) would ever lose their fighting spirit, I would have said it would never happen.

Gitmo was designed to be a camp for terrorist trials? So, what is the advantage of doing it there, other than not having to obey US law?

I'm not even going to answer that. You probably also think they deserve a jury trial and all the other perks that US citizens work and die for.

Gitmo was established to circumvent the Constitution...Specifically the 14th Amendment. The 14th Amendment to the Constitution reads:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws. (Emphasis supplied).

The first part of the 14th Amendment applies to citizens of the United States. The second part applies to all persons (citizens and non-citizens alike) who fall under the jurisdiction of any State.

I just want to know what the value of a trail at Gitmo is. If they are going to have a "by the books" military trail, then that can be done anywhere in the US - so why go to Gitmo?
