Yes, the 2020 presidential election is really over.....!!!!

I believe that all of the lawsuits alleging supposed voter/election fraud that were filed in various courts in multiple states over the past month, have either been dismissed or failed, due to lack of any justifiable evidence or proof. Essentially, the final verdict on these unsubstantiated claims occurred this past Friday with the U.S. Supreme Court, by a vote of 7 to 2, when they refused to hear that wacko, "Hail Mary" suit brought by the Texas AG. I find it quite ironic and amusing that so many current Republicans hopped on that lawsuit bandwagon, when historically, Republicans have been the traditional proponents, championing the importance of "States Rights", upholding the U.S. Constitution that clearly says that it is up to each State to determine how they will conduct their elections. I assume that the US Supreme Court justices also took into consideration how the COVID-19 virus pandemic created unique and extraordinary circumstances this election year, in how we have traditionally mostly voted in person and the realization that mail-in ballots would be a much safer option.

Now that all 50 states have certified their vote count, it is time for those skeptics (Republicans), to accept that Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump by about 4.45% (according to the Pew Research Ctr.), having received a record of nearly 81.3 million votes, or 51.3% of all votes cast, which was 7 million more votes that Trump received. Biden is on track to receive 306 electoral votes, or 56.9% of the 538 total votes available and that he will become our next president in January 2021.

The stupid bloviating by some folks advocating secession from the United States of America or that are suggesting that we are nearing a possible Civil War 2.0, is as ridiculous as the liberal Democrats who threatened to leave the U.S. or to have the coastal states secede, after Trump was elected back in 2016. It is all just knee-jerk bluster by anonymous internet keyboard warriors who take the simple and easy path to pontificate and express their frustration, disappointment and anger with the results of the election. None of what they are proposing is going to happen.

Yet, I understand and am concerned that it is possible that some delusional, angry, paranoid people, either as lone wolfs or in small groups of pseudo-military heavily-armed, far right-wing, white nationalists militias, may participate in some violent disturbances and clashes around the country between now and Biden's inauguration. Much will depend on the outcome of the special election in Georgia in January that will decided which party will control the U.S. Senate. But those people are in the distinct minority and will not have the support of the vast majority of law-abiding citizens, regardless of political affiliations. I am sure that the various law enforcement departments will follow their oaths and preserve the civil peace and arrest those who commit any vandalism and/or violent crimes.

Most people, (myself included), recognize that there will be the mid-term elections in just two years where the job of those legislators up for re-election will be evaluated and decided on by the voters. Then, 2024 will be arriving two years after that and all of us will have another chance to decide who we want as POTUS. I certainly hope that our country, on both the state and federal level, will revisit and modify our voting laws to address many of the shortcomings and issues that were exposed in this years election. IMHO, a more clear and consistent approach on a national level on how we should vote would make sense.

But again, for all practical purposes, the 2020 presidential election has now been decided and will be formally finalized over the next three and a half weeks. Specifically, this coming Monday, December 14, 2020 with the vote by the Electoral College in each state, followed by the a joint session of Congress meeting on January 6, 2020, as a formality to count the Electoral Votes and declare the election results.

Now let's see if the incoming President-Elect Biden and his new administration can actually propose and enact programs that will really help ALL Americans, starting with properly addressing the surging and worsening COVID-19 virus pandemic...
