2012 Election Thread

In 2008, we had page after page in this forum. It got heated at times.

Obama was going to ruin the country. Palin was going to save it. And vice versa. MrLabGuy was on every few posts. Bystanders from outside the US (like me) joined in. Partly for the Palin jokes, but also to debate.

So, what about 2012? Results are just starting to come in. Anybody watching?

I try to stay away from politics online- I'm not going to convince anyone, and you wind up getting alienated from people with whom you'd otherwise have interesting conversations...

Watching here, flipping through about 5 'networks' to hear the stories...
These panels each net has assembled, are annoying and light on insight, imo.

An anecdotal shot of a CO vote counting precinct showed racks of mail in ballots; it looked like the Post Office at Xmas time, circa '65. Dunno how all the votes in the key states are going to get counted, soon.

And, for those states without early voting, the populations are too big for the voting operations: standing in lines for 2-3 hrs? Like voting in Baghdad.

Interesting to see the impact that less than a dozen states have, electorally.

electorally? electronically? electrically?... lol... while it sounds absurd, but these words do have a common beginnings - electro (elektra) is a greek word for amber... derived from given by the sun, or sunny gift - something to that effect... greeks used stones to cast their votes and while i do not know for a fact, i suspect that some nobles used ambers to cast their elite vote... hence, elector, electoral college, elections... also, the same amber was used to produce static electricity, for whatever reason it might be and the phenomenon of the electricity was called... well... electricity... and all the other things, like electron, electric...

good thing we are not discussing "testemony" - even better explantion why we say nowdays, grab someone by the "balls"... lol...

The US lived through 8 yrs of BushieII...barring apocalyptic happenings, I suspect the US will live through 8 yrs of Obama, also.

One comment I caught, (can't remember who the talking head was), pointed out that Romney was always a 'numbers guy' and not very good at portraying his 'story' in a realistic manner. And conversely, Obama was not considered a 'numbers guy', and was more into the vague big picture along with 'his story(s)'. But, the Obama reelection machine worked the 'numbers' to a fare thee well and nailed down the specific voting areas and precincts they had to, to get those votes where needed. Mittoh farmed out much of that to the RNC and its old white guys minions, and finally started telling his 'stories'.

I thought that assessment was telling, and appeared to be a significant part of Obama's reelection.

PS: for the younger gang, having lived through Presidents since Harry S. Truman, whomever is the elected Prez seems not to be the 'end of the US', or life as one knows it, imo. The elected 'geniuses' of both the house and Senate and all the unelected bureaucrats and regulators, still remain the spenders and 'mis-guiders' of this country, imo.

Well, what's done is done. On one hand, I am not surprised Obama won, but on the other I am. Unemployment is higher than it was when he took office, the housing market still sucks, I think his last approval rating was about 46% and he really hasn't come through on many of his promises from 08. Honestly, if he didn't win, I am not sure what his legacy would have been other than being the first black president. Now that he has a full 8 years, the pressure is on. What will his legacy be? Will he get anything accomplished? One thing is for sure, there wont be any more blaming Bush after a full two terms. I truly hope it works out because we have no other choice.

Also, what concerns me more than the presidential election is the re election of Jesse Jackson, Jr. in Illinios and and Victor Hill in Georgia. For those of you who don't know, Jesse Jackson, Jr. hasn't even been able to perform his job duties since approx. June because of mental issues and Victor Hill was elected sheriff but may not even be able to serve as he is facing 32 pending felony charges. Who is voting in this country?
