Hotels for SunFest

I'd like to get my hotel room booked for SunFest and I want to stay with "the group!"

I'm thinking I'll fly down on Friday morning and stay through Sunday night or even Monday night...depending on everyone else's plans.

fln8tive posted these three options:

Bilmar
Sirata
Tradewinds (FYI--this is a non-smoking resort)

These hotels seem to average $250/night. I'd like to pay a lot less than that! Any ideas?

Did some quick net "looking":
-The Bilmar is booked and N/A,
-The Sirarta wants min. 3 nights, lol!

and the Tradewinds is prob. not an option; it's
"sister" property looks like a place I'd take my
granddaughter to, if I couldn't get into D World.

I may have to shag a Motel 8 or, sleep in the car.

I guess I now know why we "live here" in FL in
the winter season, as opposed to visiting and
getting a room.

I am planning to go over to St. Pete/St. Pete Beach next week to scout out some hotels and check out the venue...there are scores of hotels in the area, so I'm sure we'll be able to get a place sorted out. The venue is actually in Pinellas Park, FL, which is slightly north and east of the "beach" area. As mD mentioned, a few of the places have three day minimums, but I have been able to get around this if a group is staying...

As FLN8 mentioned, FEMA trailers are an option...

A once thriving metropolis, outside Punta Gorda; I'm
sure we can bunk up, frat house style, in one of the
empty ones. And, it makes for a reasonable commute
to the Meet.

Not usurping FLN8's hotel/meet site investigation...
A cursory dig on Yahoo Map shows a bunch of joints
within a driver and 9 iron of the meet site.

Have not DD'd whether any are avail or cost.
Jes' FYI and fwiw.

I booked my trip over the weekend. I booked at the Sirata, I'm staying the week so I wanted a beach resort. I could shorten my stay and change hotels for the weekend to be with you guys when you decide what you're doing.
