Update. The 5 went in Friday morning and as it was explained to me the steering wheel needed to be removed in order to replace the SEL sensor. Then all the electronics in the car had to be re-programed to facilitate the inclusion of this part. So hopefilly it will be ready Monday at some point. It was a madhouse at the dealer people everywhere but they did provide a car. A matalic Purple Impala from Enterprise. The guy who processed the car was very nice but explained that they had run out of BMW's and kindly expressed that he hoped I would't get mad because they didn't have one.

Of course I arrived at the conclusion that I would not be buying an Impala anytime soon. The engine was extreemly quiet though. Other than that it was an Impala, need I say more?? Needless to say I've been racking up the milage on that Chevy while my X gets a rest.

SEL sensor?

I can only give you what's on the work order. Initial analysis says; "ordered SEL sensor", actual day of work order says INSTALL SOP SZL.

Wierd, it must be the steering angle sensor...it couldn't be anything else if it's the steering column. That's what they initially told you right?

Thats the way this thread started out http://www.xoutpost.com/other-bmws/17...issue-e60.html and thats what they said. But who's to know what all those codes mean. I usually have them enter the information in plain english just for my records though.

Last up date i hope. Well the repair went well. Except one evening the alarm went of while i was driving. Pulled over, opened the drivers door and closed it and that was that haven't heard from it again. One thing though. The key fobs wouldn't remember the seat or mirror position but would remember to recall the audio for each key. Turns out that when the car is reprogramed for this new part it returns everything to the de-fault settings. So we were instructed to go into settings and check the "remember seat position settings and now all is ok.
