Vishnu is better in terms of price-power.

Yeah, I agree it would be hard for me to buy one of these over an M3 at or near the same price. They do say that it isn't for everyone. Not sure about resale value though. Dinan Signature cars seem to hold value really well and technically are more rare than M cars. All the extra torque in the S2 would be very nice around town.

Vishnu gives better HP/$ for sure, but if I were planning on keeping the car for a while Dinan would be the way to go. That article made a believer out of me. Dinan's engine flash does so much more than trick the engine into creating more boost, which is essentially all Vishnu and all other "piggy-back" units do. The added protection of tapering boost at high RPM's and remapping the water pump speeds to help control oil and water temp seem pretty important to me with regard to the longevity of the bi-turbo engines.

(BTW crappy driver in the vette)

I had the Procede v2 and other than the first 2 laps around the corner, I had SES codes and limp mode anytime I reached 3k on the tach. Not sure if it was related to the install, but I eventually got frustrated and lazy, and went with the Dinan tune.

Totally happy with Dinan and would highly recommend. I've yet to hear ANY problems with it, other than 3/08 production month had some issues which Dinan is addressing. Low end torque is kinda lacking, but will be fixed with a free flash next month. I guess I gotta start saving for that intercooler :)

BTW, Procede v3 seems very promising based on prelimary specs for anyone looking at a piggyback tune.

I can really feel the difference and it's more than fast enough for me - especially for the price and the ease of use. It's certainly not as fast as a vette, but for the number of times I'll try to get top acceleration out of it, it's more than enough to put my license at risk...

What does it do, just increase boast?

Well, for the car, it increases boost - but for me, yes, I suppose it does increase boast... ;)

 spell checker only does so much.

Do they all increase boost, Dina is the only that does not void warrantee?

JCL 04-22-2008 03:47 PM

They all increase boost; some bring factory boost in at lower revs, and others increase peak boost as well. They all play with fuel maps and timing. The Dinan tune also removes the top speed limiter (some others may do this, many don't) and adjusts the speed of the water pump. There are a few other similar enhancements. They accomplish this by either fooling the sensors so that the engine computer makes the changes based on altered condition sensing, or they rewrite the engine software to provide different outputs.

All of them void the warranty on the powertrain if a failure is found to be due to the modification. That said, the Dinan tune includes a Dinan warranty that picks up where the BMW warranty stops (but it doesn't offer extended warranty). Some of the risk is managed/mitigated with the Dinan tune since it is sold by your BMW dealer, who presumably offers OTTC (one throat to choke) or at least SPOC (single point of contact).

I dunno, if I had that kind of power I'd be too tempted to try top speed runs on my own. Even with the sport package, where am I ever going to use the 250km/h limiter on our 325i? I mean, unless you live in the middle of Texas or southern Virginia..........

For $525 sound like a deal. It does not produce any error codes?

How do you like the 335, do you miss the X?
