335 Top Speed

1 Attachment(s)
Just reading a post over at Bimmerfest. Owner of a stock 335 saw 150 (indicated) on a European Delivery (well, it takes all kinds, guess he is of the 'break them in hard' school of thinking).

He just installed the Dinan ECU flash, which adds 50 or so additional hp (depending which dyno you believe) and removes the top speed limiter.

On a private track, using a GPS unit, owner saw 175 in 6th. Not at red line, still climbing slowly, but running out of road so he lifted.

Other mod was installing Y-rated tires (186 mph).

That is a lot of performance for very little money, relatively speaking. Yes, I know a Corvette gets up there, but this is a 3 series. Similar thoughts apply to the 5 series, and the upcoming 135.

There is a great article in the April 08 Roundel on the Dinan 335i S2. From what I have read, it has 407 horse power @ 5,700 rpm and 429 foot-pounds of torque at 3,700 rpm. That is nearly as much horse power as an M3 and over 130 more foot-pounds of torque!

The journalist said he drove both the V8 M3 and the Dinan S2 on the same day and he could tell by the seat of his pants that the Dinan S2 was faster in a straight line.

It also sounds like Dinan has done their homework with regard to the bi-turbo engines. Most of the "piggy-back" units seem to trick the engine into thinking it is not producing as much boost as it should, but Dinan has actually re-written the program all together. Some other tuners are claiming more horse power, but might be doing it at the expense of the engine. Whereas Dinan goes as far as tapering boost at high end RPM's to help extend the life of the engine.

The 135i is already a pretty fast car, but a Dinan version would be a beast. The tunability of the bi-turbo engine is going to help sell a lot of 135, 335 and 535's. For a little extra money you will be able to get your 535 to perform like it's bigger brothers.

Gotta love the twin turbo! Once the e70 x5 turbo model comes out, I'm buying it! =)

The Dinan ECU flash removes the top speed limiter.

I have the Dinan ECU Flash and its great!!! I wouldnt say its cheap, especially when compared to other 'piggyback' tunes. My Procede v2 was a lot cheaper, but gave better HP/torque. However I chose the Dinan b/c of the warranty and ability to not have to take the piggyback off when bringing in to get service. The Dinan S2 package would be really nice, especially the bigger and better intercooler, but it aint cheap at all (although Dinan has been cheap).

Any idea how much the Dinan S2 costs?
