Well, I haven't been to New York for almost a year now, but I didn't see the police killing residents and saying "so be it", which was one of the examples given. I think there was another example above about bombing kindergartens if there were any bad guys in the neighbourhood. These are the examples that I saw as inconsistent with a self-proclaimed policeman role. But you knew that :stickpoke

The simple solution (IMO) is to bring all our forces home. ALL. We guard our borders and let the rest of the world police itself. Why is it our business? China will be number one soon. What would you say if China sent 200,000 troops to Venezuela to fight a war? Doesn't seem right, does it.

Our military should be here. In our airports providing security. In tanks on the Mexican border. Our aircraft carriers should be patrolling the seas off our big cities. Our air force should be flying non-stop patrols to ensure no drug planes get in. Our navy too.

Generals should be here making plans for America, not half way around the world trying to fix the unfixable. these people have been at war with each other for thousands of years. We are going to change them? ha

Simple we use power and we lose authority...

And we may have the power to police the world...but Israel does not...so they should know their place...

We entered a ground war in Iraq & Afghanistan, which is the mistake. Limited air attacks would of resulted in far less loss of life. The whole Irag war was a mistake.

Our superiority is in the air, when need to, we notice the problematic country/area and then take care of the problem. The net effect would that third world countries would take notice and stop playing games. We need to speak softly and carry a big stick. In the end world wide conflict would be reduce and the world would be more peaceful. The children and civilians throughout the world would be safer and have a better quality of life.

Our space lasers can do almost everything the air-force could do. Think about it.

I'll admit I took it to another level.

Actually there are citizens all around the country including NY
who feel like "acceptable collateral damage" is a practice that has
been going on among the police for some time? But honestly
thats another subject. No need to hijack the thread.

Simplistic, and it will not happen, with the mindset that evolved during and post, WWII...but, a helluva idea, imo.

I would like to see that kind of "military isolationism" tried for a few years; the radical jihad group(s) would still be pecking away at us, but any sensible foreign gov't knows we could still drop the million megaton hammer at a moment's notice.

Not sure if it is the answer but the current approach is not working.

Viperfreak2 07-02-2010 02:42 PM

The current approach also costs a lot of money, that we do not have.

:iagree:...I was at a friend's home last eve, for our monthly couples Hold'em
pokah night; that group of my friends includes a retired 30 yr Marine Col, who flew choppers, a 30+ yr Air Force Col who flew fighters,
a retired Continental 777 pilot who flew off carriers for the Navy, and a retired Air Force Col that flew tankers...they are all quite "conservative",
politically, as you could guess.

I tossed up Viperfreak's idea of military "semi-isolationism", and they all agreed to a man! Very surprising and interesting, imo.

They all agreed that us, the US, being the cop/"democracy instigator" of the world is utter bs, costly in both money/lives/world perception,
and has gotten us nowhere in the past few decades.

Anecdotal, but very interesting, imo. This gang of very good friends, some of whom were true heros, all got shot at/shot down, and all are FoxNewsJunkies,
feel we are on the highway to hell in this current mode of Iraq, Afghanistan, et al.

Just an anecdote...but, imo, the Gov't would not care if the opinion poll tomorrow, said the same thing.
