Just about to buy, please help

Hey Guys,

I've just joined and thanks for all the information I have been able to take out of the, 'The Australian X5 Thread' (yes I read all the posts).

So I have my final spec with a dealer and I was wondering if you guys could cast your eye over my list and let me know what you think. Have I missed anything, do I need more, do I not need something etc etc.

This will be a build to order car.

E70-X5 xDrive 40d Sports

Sport Package (Standard on 40d)
- Sports Suspension Settings
- Sport Seats (replaced by Comfort Seats)
- 19" light-Alloy Wheels Y-Spoke 335 with mixed Tyres (replaced with M Sport Package Wheels)
- BMW Individual Roofliner Anthracite
- Sports Leather Steering Wheel (replaced with M Sport Package Wheel)
- BMW Individual High-Gloss Shadow Line (replaced with M Sport Package Exterior Line)
Innovations Package
- Automatic Tailgate Operation
- Comfort Access System
- Panoramic Glass Roof
- Bi-Xenon Headlights including Headlight Washer System
- High-Beam Assist
- Heads-Up Display
M Sport Package
- Sports Suspension Settings
- M Exterior parts
- Sport Seats (replaced with Comfort Seats)
- 20" Light Alloy Wheels Double Spoke 333M with Mix Tyres
- BMW Individual Roofliner Anthracite
- BMW Individual Exterior Line Aluminum Satinated
- BMW Individual Roof Rails in Black High-Gloss
- Seat Adjustment, Electric with Memory Function (Standard on 40d)
- Interior Trim Fine Brushed Aluminum (replaced with Fine-Wood Trim Bamboo Grain, Dark)
- M Door Sill Finishers
Sapphire Black Metallic Paint
Nevada Leather Black
Side View
Comfort Seats with Electric Lumbar Support
Connect Music Player to Mobile
Internet
Carpets
Windows to be tinted to 35% by a 3rd party supplier

Options that I thought of but have disregarded at this stage:

Seat Heating for Drive and Front Passenger (In Sydney with Car in a carport, probably only need 10 times a year?)
Adaptive Headlights (85% City Driving, are they really worth it?)
Alarm System (Been told its a waste on money)
Climate Comfort Windscreen (to expensive to replace and I'll just buy a sun shade)
HiFi System Professional (Can't justify the cost)

A couple of questions:

1. Because I have opted for the M Sport Package do I get the 19" from the standard car as well as the 20" from M Sport Package?
2. Does anyone have a link for the breakdown of what is included in the EPP (Executive Purchase Plan)
3. The Dealer is quoting June Production for a end of September delivery, is this realistic?

I have to place this order by Wednesday next week to guarantee June Production.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Congratulations!

Ordered mine in March 2010 for April production. Got the car in July 2010. Mine is 30d Innovation.

Things I ordered that I found useful:

1. Mechanical Side Blinds - relatively cheap option, compared with the rest of the car. Depends whether you carry little ones like I do.
2. Third row seats - useful in my situation. Kids and adults in my family are petite. Angle of second row seat can then be adjuseted, and the second row can slide forward and backward.
3. Iphone cradle - love it.
4. Moulded luggage area tray.

Things I orderd that I found useless:

1. Connect music player to mobile - preferred to download music (lossless file) onto usb key and plug it in.

I have the bamboo trim with space grey. Love my colour combination.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

With regards to the 3rd row, is that permantly fixed to the car? Or can it be removed relatively easily?

Also I opted not for the mechanical blinds, however I have never seen them. Are they better thane a 3rd party window shade which can be removed at the drop of a hat?

Cheers

Hi Curry,

Third row seats fold individually flat in the boot. All you see is the seatbelts at the "D" pillar. There is a separate fan and heater in between the third row seats.

You lose the retaining strap at the side of the boot. In its place, you get little shelf sticking out as armrests. The seats take up the space where you would have the spare tyre.

You get (and pay for) self levelling suspension as well.

The built-in mechanical sunblind is definitely neater than the third party accessories (eg. window socks, or stuck on things), and also very easy to pull up and down. When not in use, all you see is the small handle at the edge of the door, and the two hooks at the top of the window. I suppose it cost $500 as compared to $20 for third party options.

In my situation, although the boys (4 and 6 year-old) sometimes whinge that they cannot "see out" too clearly, however they promptly ask for it to be deployed when there is strong glaring sunlight.

I ordered mine before they arrived in the country. I only got to test drive the prefacelift 30d with the six speed auto. The 30d with 8-speed auto is a dream to drive.

I bet your 40d would be out of this world. Whatever configuration you choose, it would be a joy to drive!

1. No, you won't get both the 19s and the 20s.
2. Can't help
3. That wait time sounds about right.

Rad339,

With regards to the rear seats, I would like to ask a couple of questions:

1. I understand that the standard rear seats become moveable, at their full travel do they have as much room between them and the front seats as a standard car?

2. With the self leveling suspension, does it induce more body roll into the car? One thing I am speccing the car up to do is handle well and I'd prefer not to mess with that.

Thanks once again.

Cheers

Can't see why the self-levelling suspension will make it body roll more. E70s don't body roll much anyway, especially with the Sports suspension.
