OBD scanners for E70

Hi all,

I'm new to this OBD scanner stuff, need some advice from anyone
1) looking for a wifi scanner
2) not hoping to do any programming, just reading codes only
There are tons on eBay but I'm not sure which one might work, I don't want to plug in the wrong one and potentially cause any damages.

For example I'm looking at something like
WIFI ElM327 Auto Scanner for all obd2 Vehicles Work with Android and Iphone | eBay
But not sure if its compatible with an E70 (2008)

Can someone please advice?

You need to make sure that the software and the module will read all the BMW protocols. The basic protocols that all OBD scanners will use are used for pollution testing and compliance but BMW go beyond that. I use a C110 (Google it) wired scanner that is BMW compatible for example albeit I have an E83 not a E70. The C110 will read the DSC, DDE, DGE, AT, console and chassis codes and reset where required. I do have a bluetooth OBD module but the android software I run on the cell phone will not read what the C110 will. Hope this helps.

Thanks x3oiler. Yes I'm aware that the basic scanners will not scan these additional codes. I'd probably buy the basic as well as the c110. What's the basic scanner you're using with your android device ?

This one.

I think the wifi unit you have selected is the better option with the auto power down. This unit will always draw power even with the ignition of.

Hm... I'm a little tended towards the c110. If I buy the wifi unit for $40 I still have to purchase a decent software for my iOS device which will exceed the cost of a c110. Still thinking, thanks for letting me know about c110
