So I ended up using the earlier model transfer case from a salvage yard to avoid any compatibility issues. 100,000 miles later I had to replace it again (it had 50K on it). Can't complain...my '04...

I would highly suggest having new fluid done for the Transfer Case and front and rear differentials. Especially the Transfer Case...it is a very expensive proposition to replace ($4K+).

Well my 2004 X3 started a low speed vibration under load...I'd feel it shake at 20 mph, then again at 35-40 under light load. Brought it in to the dealer...he insistes it is the Transfer Case...
