So I ended up using the earlier model transfer...
So I ended up using the earlier model transfer case from a salvage yard to avoid any compatibility issues. 100,000 miles later I had to replace it again (it had 50K on it). Can't complain...my '04...

A note of caution...
Having just replaced a broken cupholder...the rear of the cupholder is screwed in. If the screw is loose you'll be okay. BUT, if it's in there tightly (like mine) you have to drop the glovebox to...

X3 Vibration...any advice?
Well my 2004 X3 started a low speed vibration under load...I'd feel it shake at 20 mph, then again at 35-40 under light load. Brought it in to the dealer...he insistes it is the Transfer Case...
