Well not being an expert in the field i can only offer my opinion.

I would check the play from the front prop to the front wheels. if there is too much then the front diff will be the problem....

Make sure you now have locking wheel bolts. These are mainly standard fitment over here (perhaps we have a riskier society?????:dunno:)

It's not that hard to drop the valve body out but means removal of the sump.
There are a few plastic balls in the plate and some rubber parts so a dunk and drain may do more harm than good??...

Yup pre x-drive

The chain felt OK through the drain plug.
The front prop was stuck on the transfer box but it finally came off so cleaned and greased the splines

will finally be filling up...

Well an update...

Gearbox now back together apart from the filter and sump pan.
All new clutch packs, pistons and seals done.
Top hat bush fitted to worn section of valve body accumulator...
