Thanks for the replies.

I think I'm going to stick with the 3.0 that I currently own. I get over 19 MPG city and it pulls my boat like a champ. Thanks for all the input and especially the article provided by Qsilver!

Cool 3.0 vs 4.6

Looking to upgrade from my 2002 X5 3.0 to a 2003 X5 4.6is. I've heard that the 3.0 is BMW's workhorse and to stay away from the 4.6. This is news to me...any truth to it?

That looks fine to me. I think your problem is elsewhere...certainly not the blockage of the butterfly valve. Did you try unplugging the MAF sensor?
