Do you know if the gear indicator on the dash moves with the key on, engine off, when you shift the lever. Mine does not at the moment.

The wire color at the connector to the alternator is solid green. Solid green goes to the diode looking thing and then grn/wht from there.

The gen light on the dash is still lit if that means...

Yeah, it looks grn/wht in the picture but it is solid green on the plug side of the diode.

Fuse 15 in the glove box is 5A. Am I looking at the wrong fuse?

I have 3 keys, tried them all.

Here is a picture of what looks like a diode on the grn/white wire.
The side where the alligator clip is the side that goes somewhere. The other side, a solid grn wire, goes to the plug.

No 12v...

I put all back together, still no start of course, but with the battery connected and the key in the on position I get continuity from the grn/wht wire on the back...

just checked the injector plug voltage on my 540...

just checked the injector plug voltage on my 540 and it is the same.
I get 3.6v on one pin and 12v on the other. same as the x5.
so that's not it.

I expected to see 12v at the injector connector. Is the 3.6v telling me something?

Has a fresh tank of gas.

Pressurized the intake and found a small vac leak coming from the crank vent valve mounted to the back of the intake manifold. I replaced it. It has a small tear in the diaphram.

As mentioned before, I've done this procedure to 4 M62TU engines. All were done on my personal cars.
