Thanks for the help on this problem.
I found my problem.
The dash material wrapped around the dash and down into the radio hole. It was covering the lower left and right of the head unit mounting...

I just finished installing an Eonon ga9166 in my 2004 BMW E53 w/NAV and DSP using a lot of the tips I found on this board. All went very well with one exception.
