Strip the ignition switch and clean the contacts, that caused crazy random faults on my e38 and the radio would always fail at the same time as the other issues.

I would second that, definitely check the condensate drain in the evaporator, if its clogged you can catch some nasty diseases from the stagnant water collecting in there.

you can strip the ignition switch and clean it up with electrical contact cleaner you don't need to buy a new one in a lot of cases if the contacts aren't too pitted.
