I do the exact same thing - keep an old iPhone 2G there all the time. No issues with battery during the 2 years.
The power is supplied for about 15 minutes, same timeout for when music/radio shuts...

Call a few wreck yards, there's plenty of them in Cali. Not guaranteed they will sell you a piece of a seat (the yards like to sell seats as whole), but won't hurt to try..

Sometimes you have to tell them how to fix. Hard to believe, but there's a lot of guess work there in the shop. They just throw parts at the problem in hope it goes away.
