X3 key - How do you keep the key charged?

I have a 2005 X3 and the key does not keep a charge for very long, resulting in non function of the key. Is there any alternative way to keep the key charged besides driving it for 4 hours? Has BMW...

Central Locking on 2005 X3

I recently purchased 2005 X3 and the key/remote works intermittently. Most of the time it does not work. Why? It would lock or unlock. Do I need to reprogram it? Any help would be appreciated.
