BUT, unplugging the transfer case eliminates the noise completely

2006 x5 4.4L e53

Recently had some road noise only with foot off the accelerator

Sounds like whirring tire noise

Unplugging the transfer case resolved the noise.

Smoke on extended idle. Like 10min operating temp

Did PCV with no change.

Usually change oil between 5-7K, haven't had the check oil light

after more research, i pulled the vacuum line from the booster, and sure enough, brown oil residue inside.

i have ordered a new booster, vacuum...

tried cleaning the crud off all 4 sensors, and still have this issue. luckily they came out easy and relatively clean except for some build-up on the fronts. The rears looked clean.

Just noticed this a few days ago.

Braking normally, and when I came to a complete stop, the pedal started to rise and the vehicle started inching forward.

as such, its probably included in the ashtray assembly in case the whole unit is replaced.

if anybody has a spare, I'd be interested.
