Noisy Diamaris
I have 20K on my 4.4 '05 X5, and the 19" Diamaris sound like a 4x4 pickup with snow tires on it. I probably have about 40% tread life left, but the noise is too much!
Any suggestions on a good quiet long mileage replacement tire that someone has had experienced with on an 4.4 X5? Your comments would be appreciated. |
The noise factor seems to be the main complaint for Diamaris. I have 30k on mine and they look to be good for another 10k - and they are noisy, but not to the point of replacing them prematurely.
Others have suggested Michelin Lattitude Tour HP, not as agressive a tire will give you more of a 'luxury' ride and has had any comments on truck tire noise. I also have experience with Bridgestones Dueler HP Sport that I had on my Expedition. Thought it was a great tire and could not wear it out - over 50k with lots of tread left when I traded it. You might want to check the reviews on TireRacks website. Good luck. |

I've been running the Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico's and am very happy with them.

I think the noise on BMW tires is attributable to the camber on the rear wheels. I have gone with 10.5 in rims all the way around so I can rotate my tires. Additionally, I have neutralized the camber on the rear wheels so they are not at such of a sever angle. Handing seems fine.

For the original poster, just so that you know...the OEM Bridgestone Turanza isn't any better than the Diamaris in terms of noise. It started roaring like crazy after 20k miles and the set only lasted 30k miles before I replaced them with the aforementioned Pirelli. |
How long have you had them?
Just put on my third set today! I'm getting about 30K each set (I've got 85K in my 01' 4.4). They have performed well and got me through 6 to 8 inches of snow and ice more than once. |
Good to know that they performed well in snow and ice conditions. That's mostly what I've been hearing about the Pirelli and the exact reason that I wanted to give them a try. Besides, the OEM summer tires don't make too much sense on an SAV.

Back to the original post, my 36K 19" Diamaris on the '04 4.4.i sport are noisy, but nothing like the Japanese tires on my wife's Mazda Series 3.

I replaced my worn out Michelins with Bridgestone Dueler Alenza's and so far I am very happy, they are very quit and seem to have great grip. Only difference I see is they are just alittle bit less smooth than the Michelin but they are much better in the rain.
