X5 meets Curb.....Curb wins
We just had a big snow storm in central pennsylvania. I was in a parking lot when I lost traction on all four wheels and went sliding (much further than I expected) and was stopped by a low concrete curb. Here are the results:
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_PAqoqJI04es/S3...olArms%201.jpg The wheel is tilted out rather than in because I drove a short distance until the computer shut me down. On the flatbed truck I was able to get a good photo of what went wrong: http://lh4.ggpht.com/_PAqoqJI04es/S3...olArms%204.jpg Broken control arms. I'm waiting to hear the repair cost. I wonder if I had turned DSC off whether I would have had a little more control (or at least some engine power going to the wheels. As it was, I had none). Thanks for reading, jclarkv |
Ouch :yikes:

dang.

Yikes! Probably not much you could have done if you were sliding on ice.
|
wowww. how fast do you think you were going? looks like u got a huge chip out of that rim too!
|
I don't think it was more than 10 mph. But 2.5 tons of car impacting on that one edge of the wheel really focused the energy.
|
Ouch, if it's just the control arm it shouldn't be too bad. But damn that hurts.

This is my estimate
Ball joint 33326770985 $62.50 INTEGRAL LINK 33326774476 $25.03 RIGHT SWING PART 33326770952 $485.10 Guiding suspens. link w rubber mount rgh 33326779388 $245.84 Wishbone, left 33326770969 $330.86 Angular-contact ball bearing unit 33416770974 $115.07 Light alloy rim 36116770200 $443.95 TOTAL $1,708.35 And I'm sure you can source most of these parts quite a bit cheaper. The main Swing Part is only $485 and a rim if you didn't want to replace the other parts that are very likely damaged... |
