For the seasoned X5 M owners, would you do it again?

Hello!

Question for all you seasoned X5 M owners.

Now that you've had your M for 1-2 years and put "X" amount of miles on it.

Would you do it again? Or not?

I'm want to make one of these my next X5 and apart from the obvious little things that go wrong with all X5's and the massive increase in fuel consumption (currently have a 3.0d) is there any issues with owning an M that one should be aware of before making the jump? Particularly with the upkeep side of things.

Keen to hear your experiences especially those with higher mileage!

Cheers!

I am 27 months and just over 25K miles and I'd do it again. In fact I plan on buying a 2013 in about a year.

First, Excellent question. Although this is an obvious query for a prospective owner, it is rarely asked.
I have mixed feelings after 40K miles. I love the way it looks especially in Blue. Love the Wheels. I love the way even with its mass and weight it can still explode from a stand still when your settings are right. I like the way the interior is put together and arranged. I like the Heads Up Display. I like the amount of carrying space.

I started out liking the iDrive but now I find it too slow. Without M Mode engaged the car feels a little ponderous. With M and Sport on, the car feels dangerous in a good way. But its acceleration and speed do not feel effortless. Some may like this, but over the past 2 years I have come to want the same acceleration but with more stealth. The sound system in its most upgraded form, is lacking in terms of clarity, power and bass response.
That's all that occurs to me at the moment. Have had to bring to the Dealer a few times for a turbo hose, a climate control issue, and squeaky brakes, but nothing excessive.
Would I have done it again? Oh yes. Best bang for the buck in late '09 by far!
Would I do it now? Probably not. Porsche has really improved the Cayenne, and I've been saving up just in case.

I miss the X6M allot, but there were too many problems to deal with, that and the dreaded turbo noise made me go to the other side........ Will I return, possibly, but the Cayenne is a great truck.

Cheers,

Thanks for the honest reposes!

I hear you on the audio, good audio seems like its something they'll never get right.

Looking at the local Market an X5 M seems to be much better buying than a Cayenne Turbo at the moment.. A 2010 X5M is in the $140-150K region where as a Cayenne Turbo of the same vintage is still about $220-230K

My next truck will either be a 2012 cayenne turbo s or turbo (preferably turbo s), or a 2013 X5M, I currently own the previous generation Cayenne, and I love my V8! I could never downgrade to the V6 hybrid, even with the tempting fuel consumption :) And my V6 X5 is surprisingly quick, I was actually in the market for buying a 4.8, but the test drive in the 3.0is blew me away! But it does show on the terrible gas milage it gets :(

Mine has been trouble free so far. The biggest problem I have with it is the rock chipping issue. For the money it is a great buy especially a little used one

It could only be used for me!

I'm not ready right now but when I am in a couple years time an almost $200k new SUV is not high on the priority list.

I'm not sure if you saw it in that "price" thread but I posted the costs and government charges of buying a new X5M here in Australia (approximately $40-50K in taxes and BS)

In a couple years time when I'm good to go on this, I will likely be able to pick up a nice low mileage couple~ year old X5M for around low $100-high $90k. I will let someone else take that depreciation hit and give the Aussie government their money! I'm not hell bent on having a "new car" And I would much rather invest that extra $100K into the business its only common sense!

Turbo S is going to be a lot more expensive than the X5M.
