Ok, here's an article about installing ACS pedals in an X5:

Figured I'd post my own for ///M-Sport pedals in an X3. Great way to show off, right?:)

The X5 article does a great job of describing the necessary work. The main problem I ran into with the dead pedal was drilling the holes and putting in the screws for the top two screws. There is very little clearance between the bottom of the kick panel and the top of the pedal. I even removed the panel (three philips screws and a plastic button/screw), but it didn't help much. Consequently, my top two screws aren't in as straight as I'd like, but they're passable. As the article states, all you need to do is drill into plastic, so easy day there. The article mentions being able to remove the pedal, but I didn't see how (and didn't care to anyway...). This pedal attaches with screws, while the other two attach with nuts/bolts.

Ok, the brake pedal is going to be your most difficult task. As stated in the article, the rubber cover on the pedal comes off quite easily. Now for the hard part: drilling through the metal pedal. I held up the new pedal, marked my hole positions (used one of the screws to scratch the positions), and then broke out the drill! It took some effort (duh), but it wasn't too bad. I was a little concerned that one of the holes (top right) was closer than I liked to the edge of the pedal even after making very sure that things were lined up right. After drilling though, there were no problems, so wasted worry there.

The gas pedal is similar to the brake pedal, but easier because you're drilling through plastic vice metal. Line it up, mark you holes, and drill away! The biggest problem I ran into was putting in the bottom right nut and bolt. I had a HELL of a time getting the washer and nut on the back, but I finally got it.

The final issue was attempting to cut off the excess of the bolts on the back. There seemed to be a lot of excess, so I wanted to cut them off. Problem is I don't have a very extensive tool kit, so I didn't have anything small enough to work in that confined space.

Other than a few (easily manageable issues), it went smoothly. Jump in and try it yourself! :rofl:

Anybody know where to buy these @ even the AC's....just something other than OEM..but not pay like $70 bucks....that just seems a lil' high.

I would get a new dead pedal. The one you have on just don't look right. First, it doesn't completely cover the plastic and second, the left edge is straight where the plastic piece is angled. They sell ones that are angled on the left edge instead of straight.

I've got to clean 'er up before I'll get some pics. Damn rain...

Long story short, it's a 2005 3.0, titanium silver, sand beige leatherette, with aluminum-finish trim.

For now, I'll live with the dead pedal. But that doesn't mean I won't ever replace it!

Looks like you have the X5 dead pedal. The 3 series dead pedal would fit better because it has that extra angle cut on the bottom left. I just installed a set on my X5 and on my 330xi so I know what you went through!:thumbup:

I left mine long. Shouldn't be a problem. If you are bent on cutting them then mark one with a felt pen, remove all the bolts and cut them to size on the bench. Now that the holes are drilled shouldn't take you more than 2 minutes to remove and reinstall them.

I wouldn't doubt that they really are the X5 pedals. The X3 is so new, there doesn't seem to be much available for it yet. All the cheats on E-Scam just add "X3" to all their auctions... "Caveat Emptor" indeed!

I should amend the article I did- I used a really bad ass metal file on my screws, because it's actually a hazard if you have too much of them sticking out- a shoelace or pantleg could get snagged on it:(

A dremel would be ideal for this, but mucho expensivo if you are on a tool budget. A good old hacksaw might be too much tool for the task. In any case, the brake pedal is the one to worry about, I don't think any overhang on the gas pedal would pose a real problem, although for uniformity and dress right dress, it'd be nice to shear all of them off.

Yeah, that was my initial concern, that my foot would get caught somehow by the bolts on the back of the brake pedal. So far though, I haven't had any probs - neither has the CEO, who drives it most (damnit!). Thanks though!

I've had mine installed for over a year now and I've never had any problems of things getting snagged on the screws.

Yeah, but it could still happen, so fair warning.

i just did this install, pretty easy only I would suggest being very careful on the brake pedal as I drilled one hole on the lower left side right on the edge and it was a bitch to carve it out because of this. its ok because the other three holes are fine and its still centered fine nice and level. you may want to consider holding the pedal up and drilling directly through the pedal holes unless you have a really good drill technique since my bit ended up sliding i little downward. any way a big improvement aesthetically for $50 on ebay. i used a dremel to cut down the the two long screw posts on top of the gas pedal.
